Let’s meet the real challenger Major Devender Pal Singh – The famous Blade Runner of India. He is 40 years old and a Kargil war veteran. Major DP Singh was injured badly in war to the tune of being declared dead but survived to shine as India’s first Amputee Marathon Runner. As an Indian Blade Runner, he has successfully completed 12 half marathons till date. He is a double Limca Record holder, who keep raising the bar of difficulties for himself inspite of so many severe disabilities. His latest challenge was to conquer High Altitude, cross country marathon in the lap of Himalayas (10000 Feet). This is a unique attempt by any Amputee till now. His half marathon timings have improved from 3hrs 40 min in 2009 to 2hrs 26 min in 2012 (personal best).

Once fought to save the motherland from enemy, Major Singh now aspires to not only win laurels for India in sports at personal level but also motivate other physically challenged. He has started a support group for Indian Amputees on Face Book by the name of “The Challenging ones”. The Challenging Ones is a name taken from Physically Challenged. It is an attempt to convert so called Physically Challenged into The Challengers and thus the group of Challengers is known as The Challenging Ones. Its registered NGO which aspires to convert Physically Challenged into The Challengers. There are 500 Challengers (amputees) from all over India on this group at present.

“We are challengers because we feel we are capable and fit enough to give challenge to anyone” Major Singh added. In TCS World 10K Bangalore 2014, 7 members of TCO will be taking part. A few among them, like Prakash Singh Sodhi (4 half marathon), Ravi Srivastava (2 half marathon), Narayan Bhide has already ran few short and long distance runs and few like Basavesh, Venkat and Lokesh will taste the blood for first time.
