Ferns and Petals can do more!!!
Fashion is a mammoth gift of communication despite the sometimes painfully long pauses. Ayub Khan is visually challenged, but he hasn’t let that deter him from empowering 29 girls in Lucknow. The master shilpkar, a legend in his town, has donated his (only pucca) home to help girls from impoverished families, learn and hone the craft of Chikankari and its cartwheels of techniques which take more than a lifetime to master. “Ayub feels the fabric, and guides the girls as he is blind. I was awed by his commitment and this became the fulcrum of my haute couture 2015 showing where I once again fell in love with flowers and the unscripted magic they exude,” says Rina Dhaka. Her collection was was inspired by Ferns and Petals.
Flowers in the bloom are always uplifting. The new show helps bring together Indian Fashion inspired and collaborated using ferns and petals. Floral embellishments be in form of lace, starburst, needlework, sequins, 3 dimensional popping flowers, or the effect of plisse flourish on this collection. Gold floral and a vibrant palette fashion to lift the spirits..Evolving from her love affair with graphics, gotta patti ka kaam and mokaish, she is now exploring the gentle prowess of flowers by giving them a 3D avatar, or shaping her sequins after their structural patterns. Actress Akshara Haasan graced the ramp for Rina Dhaka.
“A lot of people asked me to return to my roots and revisit what I started with, almost 25 years back, so I did add the lace, and kept the architecture of the ensemble uncomplicated, playing hide and seek with modern placements and skirt saris. The central thought was to remain vibrant yet sharply incisive,” says Rina.
It is this billet-doux that she hopes to share with viewers through the prism of grandeur as fashion grapples with instantaneousness and couture retaining the expectation of infinity. The feminine & sensuous couture collection was embellished with the classic Indian color palette of emeralds, light siam and ruby Red from Swarovski crystals.
Vivek Ramabhadran, Managing Director, Swarovski Professional India, says, “Rina’s collection is always sophisticated, experimental and well researched with her signature style. Swarovski’s collaboration with Rina was a perfect fit as she seamlessly combines the traditional styles with a contemporary attitude, dazzling with the opulence of crystals from Swarovski.”
